Carveco 1.43 Update – Important Information

2023-06-28T14:09:39+01:00June 28th, 2023|Carveco, Company News|

With the release of Carveco 1.43 (all variants), we are removing the ability to install our software on the Microsoft® Windows® 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems.

Microsoft ended their own support for these platforms in January 2020 (Windows 7) and January 2023 (Windows 8 & 8.1) respectively, which means that both operating systems have been without software updates, security updates and bug fixes for a significant period of time.

Carveco has always strived to develop a great toolbox of enhanced features and regular software improvements that leverage the benefits of current operating systems. And despite Carveco’s System Requirements reflecting the removal of support for windows 8 & 8.1 in 2021, we have still tried our best to maintain a fantastic experience for those users who chose to run their Carveco software in these unsupported legacy environments.

Unfortunately, we have reached a point where we can no longer maintain support for these systems in order to continue providing a great level of service and maintain software security to the vast majority of our customers. Therefore, we have taken the difficult decision to disallow installation on Windows 7, 8 & 8.1 from the v1.43 update onwards.

We recognise that a small number of Carveco users are still using Carveco on these legacy platforms and would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused. We’ve provided a FAQ section for any legacy users affected by this below.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Frequently Asked Questions: Windows 7, 8 & 8.1 Operating Systems

What happens if I try to install future updates on Windows 7 or Windows 8?2023-06-28T11:27:01+01:00

The software update installer will not let you proceed with installing the update and advise you that your current operating system is unsupported.

If I try and install the 1.43 or future updates, will it break my current installation?2023-06-28T11:28:36+01:00

No, your current installation (1.42 and below) should continue to work as it currently does.

If I stick with my unsupported operating system, will my software stop working?2023-06-28T11:32:50+01:00

No, active subscriptions and perpetual licenses should continue to work as they always have for the foreseeable future. You will just not be able to install and use any future updates beyond Carveco 1.42.  However, there may be a time when essential updates to our licensing system may similarly prevent activations on legacy operating systems.

Why have you not shown the system requirements in more obvious places?2023-06-28T14:27:29+01:00

We try our best to make the software requirements for Carveco software highly visible. Currently these can be viewed in the FAQ, Purchase Page, and individual product pages on our online store.

The Carveco Compatibility Checker (executable) has similarly reflected the system requirements as shown in the locations above.

What do I need to do so I can continue using the latest updates?2023-06-28T14:13:23+01:00

Upgrade your operating system in line with our System Requirements (also, see links in the previous FAQ article) or alternatively look into purchasing a new PC. If you’re upgrading an operating system on an existing PC or moving to a new PC, we strongly recommend deactivating your current Carveco installation before proceeding. This will free up a licence for you to either reinstall on the new operating system or new PC.
